The Reading Hospital and Medical Center (TRHMC), the leading healthcare provider in the Greater Reading, Pennsylvania area, has retained Witt/Kieffer to assist in the recruitment of the newly created position of Chief Academic Officer. This position will have full responsibility for all medical education and research across the organization and will provide leadership aimed at moving the institution toward a stronger role as a regional and, eventually, nationally competitive independent academic medical center. TRHMC is the leader in tertiary care for this region of Pennsylvania and provides acute care, post-acute rehabilitation, behavioral, and occupational health services to the people of Berks and adjoining counties. The 743-bed West Reading facility consists of a 20-building complex located on the 36-acre suburban campus and is a Level II Trauma Center and regional referral center for cardiac, cancer, neonatology, behavioral health, and orthopaedics as well as trauma services. TRHMC prides itself on its high standing as a teaching institution, offering four residency programs with both graduate and undergraduate training and has recently announced a formal affiliation with the Jefferson Medical College. TRHMC was named one of 18 benchmark hospitals in a national study comparing quality and cost effectiveness among teaching hospitals and demonstrates its commitment to outreach and service mission through the regular provision of healthcare beyond its walls. The Chief Academic Officer will be responsible for creating and promoting a comprehensive academic vision for TRHMC. This individual will be charged with the development of innovative approaches to medical education at every level to advance the academic mission of the hospital. The CAO will serve as Assistant Dean at Jefferson Medical College and be an advocate on behalf of the Hospital's programs. The successful candidate will have a minimum of eight years of administrative experience in medical academic affairs in a teaching hospital or medical school. We seek a visionary, energetic and engaging individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills, a distinguished academic and professional record, a commitment to education, and an understanding of the value of collegiality, trust, and collaboration in achieving excellence.
