Director of Graduate Medical Education University of Utah Hospital Salt Lake City, Utah Job Summary The Director of Graduate Medical Education directs and oversees the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements for all ACGME accredited programs (60) at the University of Utah Medical Center (UUMC), as the sponsoring institution, along with its affiliated hospitals. The Director serves as the ACGME designated institutional official (DIO) and is responsible for all Housestaff positions as they relate to ACGME requirements as well as UUMC policies. S/he directs and develops documentation systems for all accreditation requirements, the Medicare Cost Report, overseeing data submitted to the GME office by programs. The Director provides education to Department Chairs, Program Directors and Coordinators on current requirements for ACGME institutional and program accreditation. Responsibilities Provide direction and guidance in developing and implementing a broad range of administrative, planning, fiscal, personnel and operational activities in support of all residency/fellowship programs at the University of Utah Medical Center (UUMC). Maintain institutional ACGME accreditation to offer graduate medical education training programs. Advise Associate Dean, Assistant Dean/Chair GME Committee, Chief Medical Officer on policies and procedures related to GME; advise Program Directors on policy and procedural matters. Meet with program directors and faculty to discuss and solve behavioral and academic problems with residents. Guide Program Directors and faculty for all grievances and disciplinary issues. Determine GME Committee agenda, ensuring that the committee approves institutional policy to comply with ACGME requirements. Act as liaison between Residency Programs and affiliated hospitals administration regarding residents, financial, accreditation and related issues. Direct housestaff recruitment and oversee quotas for the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Oversee data submitted to Fellowship and Residency Electronic Interactive Database Access System (FREIDA), to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), to ACGME, and to other agencies as required. Responsible for financial management of the department and Housestaff salaries. Develop the GME office budget ($2 million). Develop the Housestaff budgets ($41 million). Educate Program Directors and Department Chairs on issues related to GME reimbursement and resident funding. As the ACGME DIO this position will oversee the accreditation review for all programs and the institution. Will insure programs meets all the requirements the ACGME expects of the DIO, participate in internal reviews, transmit internal review to program director with GME Committee recommendations, and perform other related administrative duties to ensure continued full accreditation. Oversee the Office of Graduate Medical Education Staff. Duties include performance evaluation, selection and hiring of new staff, supervision of training, and managing daily operations of the office. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Health Care Administration, or related area, or equivalency; eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required. Applicant should have a working knowledge of spreadsheets and database applications, and an ability to track data, maintain databases to track program and resident information, and resident files. Preferences Master's Degree in Business, Public Administration or related area preferred. Ten years experience in an academic medical center is desired. Compensation Commensurate with experience.
