AHME Members Appointed to ACGME Review Committees

Earlier this week, the ACGME Board of Directors confirmed the appointments of Charles C. Daschbach, MD, MPH, and Andrew T. Filak, Jr., MD, to the ACGME Institutional Review Committee. It also confirmed the appointment of Gerald T. Costello, MD, to the ACGME Transitional Year Review Committee. Their terms on these committees will begin on July 1, 2012.
Dr. Daschbach currently serves as Director of Academic Affairs and Designated Institutional Official (DIO) at the St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, a position he has held for almost 25 years. In addition to his extensive leadership experience as a DIO, he has contributed to organized medicine at the county, state, and national levels of the AMA. Dr. Daschbach has also led several national medical education bodies, including the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (Chair, 1999-2000), the AAMC Group on Resident Affairs (Steering Committee Chair, 2004-2006), and the Association for Hospital Medical Education (President, 2007-2009).
Dr. Filak currently serves as Professor of Family Medicine and Medical Education, Designated Institutional Official (DIO), Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, as well as Interim Dean and Vice President for Health Affairs at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. His leadership experience includes six years as a residency program director as well as over twenty years as a DIO. He has served as the University of Cincinnati's representative to the AMA Section on Medical Schools and as a University of Cincinnati delegate to the AAMC. He also currently serves on the National Board of Medical Examiners USMLE Step 3 Ambulatory Care Test Material Development Committee. Dr. Filak began a term as President of the Association for Hospital Medical Education in April 2011.
Dr. Costello currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology for the Indiana University School of Medicine. He also serves as the Transitional Year Program Director at Ball Memorial Hospital and has held this position since 1992. Dr. Costello has held a number of leadership positions with the American Society as well as the Indiana Society of Anesthesiologists. He has served as President of his County Medical Society and Chair of his County Board of Health. He has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the Association for Hospital Medical Education and he previously served at the Chair of the Council of Transitional Year Program Directors (1998-2000).
