Witt/Kieffer has been retained to conduct a national search for a Chief of Academic Medicine (CAM) to lead the medical educational and research enterprise for Exempla St. Joseph Hospital (ESJH) of Denver, Colorado.
As a part of the Exempla Health system of hospitals, ESJH is licensed for 565 beds and is the oldest private teaching hospital in the region with a history of medical education that dates back to 1892. Today, over 100 residents train yearly in four ACGME fully-accredited programs in family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and general surgery. These programs are highly rated nationally, regularly attracting high caliber trainees. In terms of clinical excellence ESJH has been recognized by US News & World Report as one of America's Best Hospitals and in Solucient's 100 Top Hospitals, Benchmarks for Success four times, including recognition of orthopedic surgery and intensive care units.
The CAM will have oversight of all medical education (both undergraduate and graduate) and will be charged with designing the medical education system for the future. As a highly visible member of the ESJH executive team the CAM will be recognized as the internal and external champion for the medical educational mission for ESJH. A major focus of the near term will be bringing infrastructure and systems together that provide an outstanding culture for medical education and consistently improves ESJH's clinical quality, best practices, and physician integration.
The successful candidate will be a highly respected, creative clinician educator and academician with experience directing medical education programs within a complex environment, either as the lead educator within a large department, as an education officer in a medical school setting or within a large teaching hospital. We seek physicians with demonstrable success in building innovative medical education programs and a passion for education.
The ESJH CAM will have the opportunity to live and work in an outstanding metropolitan market. Denver has emerged as a world-class city that has something for everyone. The downtown area has over 300 restaurants, a restored historic district, great brewpubs, a collection of world-class museums, a variety of galleries and shopping, three college campuses and a new convention center. As only one of a few cities to offer eight professional sports teams, Denver is home to three new sports stadiums. The six-county metro area has a population of 2.4 million and is set at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, with views of dozens of snowcapped peaks and fabulous sunsets.Denver has a very mild and semi-arid four season climate and on average records 300 or more days of sunshine a year.
