DUTIES: The College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks to fill two positions as Assistant Professors to help fulfill the teaching mission of the College as it expands to two new sites in Southeast Michigan: (1) the Detroit Medical Center (DMC); and (2) Macomb University Center (MUC). These positions are fixed-term (non-tenured) faculty appointments in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at MSU. There are two special features of these positions. First, the faculty member will join a basic science teaching team (with other faculty on the East Lansing campus and in Southeast Michigan) to deliver the medical school curriculum. The team develops and presents lectures and laboratory sessions, creates learning and assessment instruments (including hard copy and online), grades student performance, holds office hours and help sessions, addresses student queries via e-mail, online chat rooms, course-specific websites, and manages all aspects of course administration. Second, it is expected that the instructor will be able to support student learning across basic and clinical biomedical science domains. In such a role, the instructor will become acquainted with our overall preclinical curriculum and more fully involved in, and dedicated to, student learning.
QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate or other terminal degree. Other degree requirements: Doctor of Pharmacy degree or a medical degree (DO or MD). Qualifications other than degree: Additional requirements include three (3) years of prior clinical experience and strong interest in teaching, excellent communication skills, and familiarity with a variety of instructional technologies.
