Assistant Vice President for the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Department

Physician Services Division is seeking full-time Assistant Vice President for the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Department. This position assists the Vice President of Graduate Medical Education (GME) in activities associated with strategic planning (short and long-term) and oversight of the day to day operations of the UPMC GME office. This position matrix reports to the Vice President of GME, the GME Designated Institutional Officers (DIO), and the UPMC Physician Services Division Senior Vice President for Administrative Services and Physician Relations. He/She will be responsible for the individuals and the activities within the Resident Management Services group and work collaboratively with executive, technical and line staff in the Office of GME, the DIO, and the UPMC Physician Services Division Offices of Finance and Administrative Services and Physician Relations. This position is standard Monday thru Friday daylight hours or as needed.
Responsibilities:
-Provides assistance to the Vice President of GME on the following committees: Graduate Medical Education Committee, Sub-Committee Orientation, Sub-Committee Accreditation Reviews and Quality Committee, Resident and Fellow Quality of Life Committee (Duty Hours), Benefits and Compensation Sub-Committee, Ex Officio member Program Director Development Committee, Patient Safety and Quality Improvement and the Recruitment Committee.
-Collaborates with program directors, faculty, the GMEC and the DIOs and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Medical Education Program leadership in the design of new teaching programs, program fiduciary management, and ensuring program quality.
-Provide oversight for program coordinator and administrator development related to GME.
-Assists the Vice President of GME in leadership in the areas of maintaining and overseeing program standards, compliance, and accreditation for graduate medical education programs.
-Acts as liaison between the Board of Directors and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center leadership.
-Assists in the development and implementation of multiple strategic planning projects related to the academic mission within the integrated delivery system
Qualifications:
-Bachelor's required. Master's Degree preferred with a concentration in healthcare, management or education or 8-10 years of equivalent experience.
-Knowledge of Graduate Medical Education reimbursement policies and procedures. Knowledge of relevant national accreditation standards and processes. Extensive knowledge of complex federal and state medical education training regulations and procedures, advanced management technologies, personnel and business practices
Special Skills and Abilities Required:
-Excellent interpersonal skills.
-Ability to communicate effectively in a positive manner with system-wide executive leadership, physicians, and Office of GME personnel.
-Skilled at negotiations and reaching settlements in disputes.
-Excellent organizational skills.
-Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, complete multiple tasks in a limited period of time and handle large volumes of paperwork efficiently.
-Ability to recognize major issues confronting the health care industry relative to the education of physicians, clinical research, and the payment and delivery of health care.
-Strong technical, analytical, and judgment skills to interpret regulations and supervise staff.
